1.Redmi Note7 Pro

With a 48MP camera, Snapdragon 675 and new gradient colors, there's little to criticize about the Redmi Note 7 Pro. It not only brings a new design into the mix but also offers good gaming performance. The camera is one that makes it worth the buy, especially the default 12MP mode which can generate excellent detail and good dynamic range. It is the best mid-range phone to buy right now. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 has topped most of the benchmark scores in the mid-range segment. It's also specially optimized for gaming with additional features like network booster, frame rate booster and the likes. The phone also didn't slow down for the days we used it for the review and the UI transitions and icons look much better than before. The Redmi Note 7 Pro also brings an IR blaster to the mix that allows you to control your home appliances like a TV, AC, etc. There are additional features like a secure folder, a dual instance of WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. and smart replies. Build quality wise the phone is quite durable. The Redmi Note 7 Pro sports Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and the back and the launch presentation demonstrated how the phone can crack walnuts and tumble downstairs without much of a scratch. The only major downside to the Redmi Note 7 pro is you get ads served right into the UI.

The Realme 3 Pro acts as the perfect alternative to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. It's powered by the Snapdragon 710, making it an able performer. It's especially good at handling high-end games and the battery life is more than enough making the Realme 3 Pro one of the best phones to buy under Rs 15,000. The Realme 3 Pro also doesn't offer ads in the UI, making it much better to use than the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Realme 3 Pro doesn't have the 48MP camera like the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Instead, it brings the same camera that's there on the OnePlus 6T and offers pretty good imaging capabilities. In fact, the night mode on the Realme 3 Pro is a little better than what Xiaomi offers. The Realme 3 Pro is also quite adept at gaming. The GPU benchmark scores are higher than Snapdragon 675's scores and the frame rates and stability on PUBG Mobile is also higher. Overall, if you can't get your hands on the Redmi Note 7 Pro or you don't like Xiaomi's UI, this is the next best thing in the market.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S sits between the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Redmi Note 7 and borrows hardware from both devices to create a balanced mid-ranger that's both affordable and powerful. Hardware-wise, the Redmi Note 7S is similar to the Redmi Note 7 with a Snapdragon 660 along with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Redmi Note 7S also sports the same 4,000mAh battery with support for up to 18W fast charging. However, the camera is a similar 48MP sensor like the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Only, the Note 7S uses Samsung's 48MP sensor that also outputs images in 12MP resolution by default. This one also has a 1/2-inch sensor. The image quality is also quite similar. The phone is able to get good photos in ample light with high details and sharpness and good dynamic range. In low light, the proprietary night mode is quite helpful in getting good photos when the light is poor.

The Redmi Note 7 may not offer the 48MP camera, but it does offer a refined experience that won't let you down thanks to a Snapdragon 660 SoC under the hood. Add to that the new gradient colors and a vibrant new display, the Redmi Note 7 is one of the best phones to buy under Rs 15,000. The Redmi Note 7 has similar hardware as the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 but with a smaller 4,000mAh battery. The performance, as a result, is quite similar to Asus' offering. The mid-range SoC used in the Redmi Note 7 is apparently clocked at the peak frequency supported by the CPUs which Xiaomi claims offers better performance as compared to other Snapdragon 660-powered phones. On benchmarks, the Redmi Note 7 sits on top of other Snapdragon 660-powered smartphones available in India. The camera performance is arguably better. The 12MP sensor makes for good sharable photos while the front camera takes good enough selfies. The primary camera has AI scene detection and a night mode that uses multi-frame processing to reduce noise and improve details. The Redmi Note 7 is also a good phone design-wise. It's protected with Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides and comes with a premium glass finish. The phone, however, looks the same as the other Redmi Note phones and they’re very difficult to tell apart. The phone runs on MIUI 10 which has the bad reputation of serving ads in the UI but overall, it’s quite polished and optimized.

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 has all the elements of a reliable, powerful mid-ranger. It's for those who want a steady performer that can both handle the daily tasks and heavy gaming and lasts long thanks to a massive 5,000mAh battery. he Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 has all the elements of a reliable, powerful mid-ranger. Long battery life and stock Android interface are the primary reasons to buy the phone. The Zenfone Max Pro M2 looks pretty neat too with laminated glass offering gradient colors. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Performance-wise, it sits below the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro with impressive performance. There's hardly any hitch while operating the phone although we observed the battery drain is higher. It also lacks fast charging. The camera uses the stock Qualcomm app and while the photos are average, operating the camera app can be a hassle. However, the phone does come with EIS which makes recording videos better. The camera also has AI scene detection and portrait mode both on the front and the back. For audio, there are two smart AMPs that improve the volume of the loudspeaker while the 6.26-inch LCD panel is bright and vibrant.

The Samsung Galaxy M30 is part of the company's revamped efforts to make its mid-range phones more exciting. To that extent, the Galaxy M30 offers a triple-camera setup, including a wide-angle sensor and a vivid AMOLED display, which makes it stand apart from the rest of the mid-rangers with premium offerings. The Galaxy M30 is also one of the few mid-range phones to offer a wide-angle camera. The wide-angle offers a different view of the world and while it's quality is not as good as the wide-angle lens on the Galaxy S10, but it does let you experiment with different frames. The Galaxy M30 is also notable for offering a big battery and a bright AMOLED display with minimal distractions. It lasted well over a day during our review process and we believe this is a good device for watching videos while commuting. Heck, it even supports Widevine L1 certification which means you can stream content from Netflix, Prime Video and the likes in high definition. As for performance, the Galaxy M30 gives competition to the Redmi Note 7 Pro with good single-core performance. It also lasts longer than the most mid-rangers with a well-optimized 5000mAh battery.

The Realme 2 Pro was last year's benchmark for a mid-range device with a Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, along with a 16MP dual camera and another 16MP shooter up front. The Realme 2 Pro is now a little old, but it's also much cheaper than before. As a result, the price to performance ratio is now better and the Snapdragon 660 on the phone is quite reliable. The Realme 2 Pro is also notable for receiving regular updates with new features and reinforced security. There's up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage on the Realme 2 Pro. The Realme 2 Pro is also quite adept at handling games like PUBG Mobile with high and stable frame rates while regular tasks are performed without a hitch. The camera on the Realme 2 Pro is also pretty good but not as good as the new offerings. It's the only downside was that we found the phone was cheating on benchmarks. We found the CPU cores to be engaged at 100 percent of their capability when running benchmarks. Otherwise, it still is one of the best mobile phones under Rs.15,000 in India.

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is just like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but with stock Android. The same hardware that makes the Xiaomi phone on the best performers at that price, is also there on the Zenfone Max Pro M1. But the flavor is stock Android 8.1 Oreo. Apart from that, you get a sturdy build quality and decent 16-megapixel dual cameras at the back. Easily one of the best phones under Rs 15,000. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 sold like hotcakes last year and was one of the most popular devices in the mid-range segment. The stock Android interface was backed by regular updates introducing new features as well as security patches. In fact, it's also scheduled to get the update to Android 9 Pie. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 houses a large 5,000mAh battery along with a dual-camera setup encased in a metal body. On the front is a standard LCD panel with no notch. Sitting in 2019, it only makes sense to buy the phone if the budget is tight and you require a phone with long battery life, decent performance, and stock Android.

Samsung's Galaxy M20 is a mid-ranger that brings an ultra-wide-angle camera in that price range, making it quite attractive. While it does a decent job in taking photos and offering a decent experience of browsing social media, and watching videos, it’s not without some glaring compromises like poor gaming capabilities. If you're a Samsung fan longing for long battery life and a good display with decent cameras, this is the phone to get for the price especially for the 5000mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy M20, to compete for head on with the Chine mid-range smartphone, implements a lot of firsts for a Samsung device — A new design, wide-angle cameras, and a massive battery. But all that doesn't discount the fact that the Galaxy M20 is not for everyone. It's the right choice if you absolutely demand a wide-angle camera to play around with, but for everything else, be it performance or gaming, there are better devices available in the market. In a way, this is essentially a cheaper version of the Samsung Galaxy M30 good for content consumption.
